Everyday care for your air mattress

An air mattress is easy to bring out when you need an extra place to rest. Taking a few moments to care for it between uses helps keep that routine straightforward. Begin with the instructions supplied with your particular model, since materials, pumps and valves can differ.

Before each use

Look over the area where you plan to place the mattress. A clean, level surface away from sharp objects is a good starting point. Check the valve, cap and visible seams, and make sure the pump and accessories are suitable for the product.

Inflate only as directed. A comfortable sleeping surface should follow the manufacturer’s firmness guidance; adding more air is not always the answer to a concern about support.

Understand changes in firmness

Air temperature and material settling can affect how an inflatable product feels. Check the instructions for any first-use guidance. If the mattress repeatedly loses firmness, note how quickly it happens and whether the valve is securely closed.

A clear description can help a support team understand the issue. Avoid making a repair or using a chemical treatment unless it is recommended for your model.

Keep cleaning gentle

Follow the care label or supplied instructions. For routine surface care, a soft damp cloth may be appropriate; avoid abrasive tools and harsh cleaning products. Keep pump parts and charging accessories dry unless the instructions specify an appropriate cleaning method.

Allow the mattress to dry fully before folding it away. Packing a damp product makes storage less suitable and can create avoidable problems later.

Store without stress

Use the recommended deflation method, then fold or roll gently. Avoid sharply bending valves, pump housings or other rigid parts. Keep the stored product away from direct heat, moisture and sharp objects.

For rechargeable pumps, follow the separate battery and storage guidance supplied with the product. Before the next use, check the mattress and accessories again and allow time for a normal setup.
